The short version. BJG Playtest lets you try Banana Joe Games prototypes online. To make the games better we record how they are played, and we keep what you tell us about yourself. We write to you about new games only if you ask us to. We use advertising cookies only if you say yes. You can see, correct or delete your data by writing to info@bananajoe.games.
Who we are
The platform is run by Banana Joe Games Srls, Viale Monte Nero 82, 20135 Milan, Italy, VAT number IT14510300966. It is a board game studio and the controller of the data described here. For anything about your data, write to info@bananajoe.games.
What we keep
| What | Where it comes from | Why we keep it |
|---|---|---|
| Your email address | Your Google sign-in, the sign-in link you ask for, or the fair feedback form | To give you one account across every game, and to answer you |
| Username and the kind of player you are | You choose them when you take a pass | Other players see your username on the leaderboard and at the table |
| First name, surname if you give it, city, country, age range, how many games you buy in a year, how you found us | You, on the form after your first match or at a fair | To understand who plays our games and where, and to tell you when we are at a fair near you |
| What you do on the platform: your visits and how long they last, the games you open, the matches you play, how long they take and how they end, the last tutorial step you reached | Recorded while you use the platform | To find where a game confuses or bores people, and to measure how long a game takes |
| Everything that happens in your matches, with the time it happened: the characters and options you pick, every move and choice, the cards and skills you use, the fights and their results, the coach tips you read or skip, and how the match ends | Recorded by the game while you play | To balance the games, and to understand how different kinds of players play them. The team reads it; it is not used for advertising |
| Your device type, screen size, browser language and time zone, the site you came from | Your browser, on each visit | To make the platform work on the devices people really use, and to know which of our links bring players |
| Your answers after a match: ratings, comments, whether you would back the game | You | They go to the people designing the game |
| Your results: wins, losses, the pieces you pick | Recorded at the table | The leaderboard, which other players can see under your username |
| Your Banana Points (BP): what earned them, your level, what you traded them for | Worked out from your matches, your feedback and our review of it | To reward testing. Other players with a pass see your username, level, country and BP on the playtester board |
| A postal address, only if you trade BP for something we post | You, when you trade | To send it. We keep it with that one trade |
| Who invited you, if you joined with a friend's code | The link you opened | To give you both the BP for it |
Guests who play through a friend's link without a pass get a temporary identity with no email. Their matches and answers are recorded in the same way, without a name.
Banana Points
BP have no money value, cannot be sold or passed to someone else, and are only spent in the playtest shop. We can correct BP given by mistake or by abuse of the rules, and when we do, your history shows it. If you ask us to delete your account, your BP go with it.
Emails
Two kinds of email reach you from us, both sent through Klaviyo from info@bananajoe.games.
Emails you trigger. When you ask for a seat in a closed beta, one email confirms that we received the request, and a second one tells you when you are in. When you press "Tell me when it is ready" on a game, we write to you when it opens. For these, Klaviyo receives your email address and the name of the game.
News, only if you switch it on. The "Email me" switch in your pass starts off. With it on, we write when a closed beta has a seat for you, when a new game arrives to test and when one launches. Klaviyo then also receives your first name, city and country. Every email has a link to stop them, the switch turns them off at any time, and you can also write to us.
Advertising cookies
If we switch advertising on, you are asked once whether you accept advertising cookies from Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google. Nothing from those companies loads unless you say yes.
If you say yes, their code runs on this platform and tells them that you visited, which game pages you opened, that you registered, and that you started a match or left feedback. Meta also receives your email address in scrambled form, so it can recognise your account. This lets us show you our games on those networks, and find people with similar tastes. Those companies do not send us your profile or your browsing history.
The same yes also switches on Microsoft Clarity, which records how people move through the platform and the games: where they click, how far they scroll, where they get stuck. We watch these recordings to find what is confusing and fix it. Clarity hides anything you type, and it receives only an anonymous number for your account, never your name or your email address. Each recording carries the code of the match it shows, so we can watch it next to the record of that match.
You can change your answer at any time with "Advertising choices" at the bottom of the platform. Saying no changes nothing about how you play.
Storage on your device
The platform keeps your sign-in and a few preferences in your browser's storage, such as your advertising choice. This is needed for the platform to work and is not used to follow you on other sites.
Who else handles the data
- Google (Firebase) hosts the platform, handles sign-in and stores the database.
- Klaviyo sends our emails: the ones you trigger (closed beta, "Tell me when it is ready") and the news, if you switched it on.
- Meta and Google advertising, only for people who accepted advertising cookies.
- Microsoft Clarity records sessions to help us improve the platform, only for people who accepted those cookies.
Some of these companies store data outside the European Union, in the United States. We do not sell your data and we do not pass it to anyone else.
How long
We keep your account and its history for four years after your last visit, then we delete them. You do not have to wait for that: ask us to delete your account and we remove your profile, your match history and your answers. Results already shown on a leaderboard are removed with it.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it for emails or advertising. Write to info@bananajoe.games from the address of your account and we will act on it. If you live in the European Union you can also complain to your data protection authority; in Italy that is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali.
Age
Some of our games are made for adults. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian before taking a pass.
Changes
When we change what we keep or why, we update this page and its date.
